american born chinese – the graphic novel

american born chineseabc strip
here’s a can’t put it down graphic novel that you must pick up now! – american born chinese by gene yang published by first second. it is intelligently written with three different plotlines that converge to make one great expression about identity. — All Jin Wang wants is to fit in…

i found myself reading about myself really. it’s a funny way of visualizing the asian american experience. it has won several awards for children’s lit. amen. it definitely won my heart.

hey – I like this set up and your thoughts on the aa church. Don’t know if you’ve read it yet, but IVP produced a book last year called Growing Healthy Asian American Churches, written by some AA pastors of well known AA churches. (http://www.ivpress.com/cgi-ivpress/book.pl/code=3325). You might find it interesting.

It’s actually pretty neat how he uses different stereotypes to make a statement. Did you notice baby Jesus in the novel? 😀

[american born chinese pastor]
seeks to be that third place for those who are american born chinese [abc] in ministry.
here we may explore issues unique to the chinese church and doing ministry in that context
expand the intersection of asian american culture and christian faith
or simply expose what goes on in the mind of this abcpastor

this may be a bit ambitious or even naiive but i do hope that through the posts we can bring together different faith communities, passions for the advancement of the Gospel and the equipping of the body of Christ.

if you are an abc pastor or have any suggestions or would like to contribute to make this space evolve, just comment.
